Want to go on an adventure you’ve only dreamed about, journey to parts unknown, and experience life around the globe? Celebrity trainer Lalo Fuentes’ Lifestyle Fitness Vacations provide all that and more. Just don’t call them fitness retreats or fit tours: they do as much for your mind and soul as for your physique. Lalo’s trips are literally lifestyle fitness vacations. On these trips you won’t find the typical fitness routine of pushups, squats, and burpees, since your daily activities are workouts in themselves. You’ll burn up as many calories as you would doing traditional exercises, with twice the fun.
This mix of fun and fit is even obvious in the name:
LIFESTYLE: These trips are tailored to fit into a person’s typical lifestyle; for example, you’ll enjoy local food (read: not just salads) and delicious wine. Lalo acts as concierge to create amazing adventures for every client.
FITNESS: You’ll be working out the whole trip during day long activities.
VACATIONS: Like a true vacation, these trips are something to truly look forward to every year. Lalo knows not everyone goes on vacation to do pushups.
Activities on each trip will take your body back to childhood, as you run, swim, snorkel, paddle board, hike and even sandboard. You won’t be “working out” per se, just burning tons of calories in a pleasant, varied way. As part of his holistic lifestyle approach for all clients, Lalo suggests making travel as large a part of our lifestyle as fitness.
Overall, the experience can’t get any more hands on. For some trips, your welcome package will include an easy to read sailing handbook; you’ll then voyage on a brand new 50 ft long (that’s bigger than a city bus), 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom sailboat complete with modern gps/navigation system. During a previous trip to Italy, clients took a 9-hour overnight sail from Palmarola to Capri. While on board, you and your travel mates are able to take control of the boat and learn the process of sailing along the way. Also, each shipmate (that includes YOU), take turns going on dives to check the anchor of the boat once its moored on an island to make sure the ship is secure.
Other past trips have all fabulous activities for everyone involved. In Peru, Lalo and his group took a 1,500 – 2,000 mile road trip on 4×4 trucks. “Every 4 hours you were able to notice the change on geography and types of food,” Fuentes says. “Even the face features of people were different as we were getting closer to the Andes, it was a great experience.” Clients sandboarded dunes in the middle of the desert of Ica and hiked Machu Picchu. In Morocco, the group sandboarded in the Sahara Desert, while in Croatia they Subwing-ed (It’s sort of like flying underwater) through amazing beaches, visited ancient villages, and sailed from island to island.
One of Lalo’s clients said of a Morrocan trip: “…I had a chance to enjoy the most wonderful places in Morocco, drive through beautiful countryside, meet local Berbers, explore valleys, ride camels and enjoy spectacular and breath-taking sunsets in the Sahara desert….”
If none of those seem right to you, Lalo also empowers you to design your own fitness vacation with himself as your guide. This process begins with a consultation during which you outline the perfect vacation for your fitness and relaxation needs, while Lalo plans out daily meals. Feel free to add personal training sessions and book treatments such as steams and massages. Don’t forget to pick from the range of activities from sailing, surfing, cave crawling, and rock climbing, to hiking and biking.
