The preseason is where you harness your skills and build upon your athletic foundation to become a better player. This is the time where you need to dig down and commit to your end goals because at the end of the day no one is forcing you to do anything during preseason. You need to make your pre-season count.
Here are five ways to maximize your pre-season and come into the season as a top athlete.
1. Find Your Weakness
You know the results of your last season and even if you are the champion, you will still have weak points within your game. These are your main points to work on during the pre-season. Even the greats had skills they had to work on, so everyone has a point that they need to focus in on and create a new found level within that skill.
2. Fix Your Nutrition
Your nutrition is a huge concern within athletes. This is not the time to pig out and eat everything in site because you don’t have to be on the field. Instead, let’s fine tune your diet and properly fuel your body. The reward will be worth the work in the end. Make sure to fuel up with your carbs so that your workouts have the proper fuel.
3. Do Not Skip Cardio
Remember when Albert Haynesworth failed the conditioning test for the Washington Redskins? This happened because he was no longer dedicated to the game and his craft. However, HFP (HUMANFITPROJECT) athletes are born into a different class. We take pride in our performance and we want to give it our all every time we step on the field. So work on your conditioning to have the ability to outrun your opponent and you will be the victor more often than not.
4. Become Faster and More Explosive
Speed kills when on the field. It’s a skill cherished by all, but obtained by few. You need to train your body to be as fast as it possibly can. To do that you need to be faster and more explosive. This is obtainable with different variations of olympic lifts, throws and jumps. However, always remember that these movements can be complicated and if you are not prepared for the movement you can injury your body. Make sure to go to a professional to make sure your form is correct.
5. Know “Your Why”
Training without goals will always end up in failure. You need to know why you are training and remind yourself of that every time the workouts become grueling. Remember the loss your team took in the playoffs, the plays where you were beat by the opponent and remember the time you were too tired and gave up on a play and were disappointed in yourself. Allow those moments to motivate you so that you never fail the same way again. Know your why and those grueling intense workouts of the preseason will have a higher purpose within your mind.
