Here are some of my top tips to make your work day the best day from productivity to mindset.
SCHEDULE BY THE HOUR
Staying on track of the task at hand can be one if the most productive things one can do. If you set up for your day by hourly increments you will get more done and be able to stay ahead of task with your daily operations.
DE-CLUTTER
Even if it’s just a little space — say a drawer or a shelf cleaning an area of your life can have a wonderful effect on your mood and happiness level. I know it gives me a daily boost. When things start to get cluttered (and let’s face it, even the most organized get overwhelmed at times) take a few minutes to clear it out. Clearing your desk (at least the surface of it) can be a great way to start or finish your day.
VALUE YOUR TIME
Have a full schedule today? Cut it in half. You don’t need to do everything on that list so why overwhelm yourself trying to and be stuck with even more unfinished work. I took a few items on my list and moved them to next week. Do less (but FOCUS on the important — not urgent — stuff) and you’ll be less stressed out. If you cut your list down and do only half the things you want to do for today, you’ll have a much better day. No worries, you can thank me later.
EXERCISE
This doesn’t have to be an all out sweatfest, it can be going for a walk, getting in a lunch time basketball game, or a quick full body workout in. Just naked sure you release those endorphins and focus on you. You will come back revitalized, energized and have clearer thoughts.
CRANK THE MUSIC
We all know how big of a role music plays on us and how are favorite songs make us feel ever so amazing and full of life. Have a playlist on hand that gives you just that, puts that smile on your face it even make a you think back to those fun days as a youth. So turn the music on and TURN UP.
REFLECT NOT REGRET
Reflect constantly on your actions. Some people like to reflect at the end of a day, some like it at the end of the week. Whatever works for you, do that But reflect. It allows you to be more self-aware and mindful of your actions. Reflect so you are able to make adjustments and be better the next time around. When you constantly do this, more great days at work will have in closer frequency.
CHECK YOURSELF
Learn to be conscious of your own feelings. Be aware why you feel a certain way about certain work issues and colleagues. When you feel certain feelings, tell yourself why you feel that way. For example, “I feel jealous because John received compliments.” Then tell yourself – what is a better way to feel? For example, “I should be happy for John. He worked really hard for it. I should congratulate him.” Of course, it’s not easy. But if you do it constantly, soon you will catch yourself with negative thoughts. You will arrest these negative thoughts before they become words out of your mouth and action. You will be more self-aware. A more self-aware person can instantly change the way he thinks, speaks and act. A mindful person will slowly have a great day at work. Plus sooner or later those compliments and positive energy you give off will come back to you.
LOOK DAMN-GOOD
Look good, be comfortable. If you dress well and feel positive about your appearance, you’re more likely to channel your best self. Your attitude will shift, if only slightly: “The rain is terrible, but at least my shoes are on point. In the great words of the legendary Deion Sanders, ” You look good, you play good, you play good, they pay good”.
FOCUS ON BALANCE
This one I can’t stress enough as I know what it’s like to almost forget this and engulf myself in work. Don’t make your day all about work or all about your social life. Your mindset will be much more cheerful if you can establish symmetry in your life. Knock out your to-do list before meeting with friends, and try your best to build a work-life balance
END ON A GOOD NOTE
Sip your favorite tea or wine, read a chapter from your favorite novel, listen to meditative music and empowering audiobooks or brainstorm a list of what you’re grateful for at the end of each day. If you’re able to relax and wind down rather than hurry to fall asleep, you’re more likely to look back on the day with a sense of peace.
At the end of the day you may not use all of these tips but even just 2 or 3 can help make you that much more awesome, motivated and productive.
